Jay-Z like so many others before him but probably most impactfully will do Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama a huge solid this weekend and encourage young people to vote by giving two free concerts. The first show is slated for Saturday at Detroit’s Cobo Arena and the second at Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheatre on Sunday.

The announcement only strengthens the growing connection between Hip Hop and the Obama campaign.  The Democratic hopeful recently expressed his support of Jay-Z, Kanye West while praising the entrepreneurial mind state of the culture during an interview with MTV’s Sway.

“In the past, musicians oftentimes were commodities.” Obama told MTV News. “They were just shuffled around…they did well, but they didn’t have the vision to say, ‘I’m going to build a business. I’m going to build my own studio. I’m going to create my own production operations.’ I think they’re a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing.”

Jay-Z gift to Miami and Detroit is just the latest wake up call to all that this is OUR election, The Hip Hop culture’s election, the Highbrid Nation’s election.  Make sure you’re registered and know exactly where your polling place is.  If you have to deal with some bullsh*t at the polling place don’t get discouraged, that should only show you that your vote is more important than you think.  Remember…Voter registration (for many states) ends Monday.
