A Few Notes about Andre 3000′s ‘Benjamin Bixby’ Collection
Barney’s now Harrods (London)? Andre proves you only need a smart business plan to make a fortune selling ugly clothes
A lot has been made about Andre 3000′s new clothing collection, Benjamin Bixby. I mentioned it a few months back in my article “Hip Hop’s Doo Fashion is Another man’s Treasure” but haven’t gone overboard for the simple fact that I feel that the gear is so left field that those (of the Highbrid Nation persuasion) who MIGHT actually rock a style like that do so because their flavor’s different. Once you rock another man, especially a well known Hip Hop artist’s rendition of that style its not really unique and therefor almost defeats the point…seriously think about it.
To that end I think that’s why the collection is being sold here exclusively in the U.S. at Barney’s. Barney’s is so high end that I’m sure the “affluent” folks who shop their will purchase the gear not because its designed and hand sketched by Andre Benjamin but because that’s actually the type of regal yuppie sh*t they rock on an every day basis.
He’ll do well I believe. The line of stuffy and itchy looking cardigans, tweeds and trousers has a funky different feel to American Ultra-classic style and with the Barney’s price point it won’t take many pieces to see a profit. And the most important part about it is his passsion. Not only did he hand sketch the entire line but he’s traveled the world doing research, learning and searching for inspiration. This aint no cheesy hip hop clothing line.
And if that wasn’t a great fit…The Guardian is reporting that Andre will now have the opportunity to indear himself to the even more refined taste of the U.K. clothing coneseur as his collection will now be sold exclusively across the pond at Harrods in London.

i love his clothes and style.
Him and his mole can so get it.
I feel you…all except the get it part. His clothes are definately not for me. But see the thing is the style is so unique that if you see someone rocking it, its almost like they’re biting not being unique. That’s the big problem.
i don’t think its biting if you rock it. hell if i can save up 398$ to blow on a sweater i would rock it too… shit 3 stacks is like a big brother to me. nigga tryn to make a real clothing line some shit that might be around for more than a few seasons…i like it very timless and classic.
Yea, i see your “biting not being unique” point, but unless you sew your own jeans, and silk screen your own tee shirts, youre not unique either, no matter how hard you try…
its about how you put the outfit together…
its not like dudes are gonna throw their old wardrobe away and stick to andre3G’s clothes, exclusively…then piece their outfits exactly like the photos in the advertisements…
on top of that, if a dude buys that stuff, its probably his style already and has a bunch of plaid trousers and newsboy hats in his closet to begin with…
**listening to “Skew It On the Bar-B”…damn he has good breath control…yum…**
Yuppie? Just because he dresses appropriately and elegantly doesn’t constitute yuppie. Wearing baggie jeans and graphic t-shirts does not make you stylish at all…
Andre 3000 is in fact “biting” a style himself. Dressing “like” him is just dressing like a southern gentleman. Before you make broad assumptions that makes you seem like the ignorant person you are, be careful…
