Murs in an interesting cat.  I’m not going to sit hear and endorse his music because I haven’t listened to much but one thing I can say is he’s definately serious about getting people active and involved in the democratic (voting) process.  The problem is his disposition.  With the crazy hair and his silly grin I think sometimes folks think he’s not being serious.  And given the title of his upcoming album “Murs For President” some might draw the conclusion that he’s only getting involved in attempt to promote the project.

But  I spent a little time digging through his internet footprint and learning and realized that like me, Murs is about 30 years old and considers himself semi-politically conscious and is just doing his part to not only see Barack Obama into office but to support and promote political activity among his fans and those who might interact with his music.  Sometimes I’ll admit his “shtick” may become a distraction I do have to send a strong salute to the kid from Los Angeles for doing his part. On his YouTube page he’s described as aspiring to “be rap’s leader and spokesperson, the artist who helps give rap a credible face to fans, the media and critics.”

Speaking of which, Murs spent some time at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.  As most he was there to be part of and document history and took the opportunity to speak to the Democratic National Convention Youth Council. Peep the video:
