Busta Rhymes Denied Entry To UK for RockCorps Concert Citing ‘Unresolved Convictions’

Posted by Juan

Hip Hop Police Got Immigration on smash in England.

Busta Rhymes

Billboard is reporting that Busta Rhymes caught a stiffarm from Emgland’s immigration officials at the London City airport prior to his scheduled headline appearance at the first U.K. Orange RockCorps show at the Royal Albert Hall on today.

Orange is the UK’s equivalent to Boost Mobile and hence the concert is our equivalent of the Boost Mobile RockCorps tour.  The RockCorps encourages community involvement by rewarding only volunteers with these exclusive concert tickets. Concert goers must perform four hours of community service to receive a ticket to the Royal Albert Hall concert.

According to the report the action was taken due to “unresolved convictions in the U.S.A.”.  To take his place, Busta has recruited his homeboy Ludacris to take his place.  His lawyer Philip Trott of Bates, Wells & Braithwaite London LLP presented papers in support of his client, them folks weren’t having it and arrangements were made for him to fly to Amsterdam (which given that same criminal history might not be a bad deal for Busta.)  BUT the courts then granted an injunction at 9am Thursday morning to prevent Smith deported to Amsterdam.  He’s still awaiting a decision that might grant him permission to perform.

RockCorps co-founder Stephen Greene:

“We’re shocked at this sequence of events and this treatment of Busta.  He has the necessary work-permit and has been in the country twice already this year, so we’re a little puzzled that a question mark is now being placed over his ability to enter the country to perform to volunteers. (Smith has performed in the U.K. this year and last month he came in to help clear up a community center in south London.)  Orange RockCorps has inspired thousands of young Brits to help their community, get involved and make a real difference through a love of music, so we have every confidence that the government will rule in our favor later today and allow us to fulfil our promise to these positive young people by allowing Busta Rhymes into the country to perform.”
