slotMusic: The Future Of Music Playback?
So this is what the record companies hope will start buying albums on?
Things are hard for the record companies. No one wants to buy albums. Even the biggest artists in music are experiencing disappointing sales. The big record companies seem to be completely clueless as to what to do. Instead of abandoning their failing business model and come up with something new and creative, they’d rather ride a sinking ship. To give you an example of what I mean, let me introduce you to slotMusic (pictured above).
slotMusic is the record companies attempt to boost sagging sales. Basically the way it will work is that record labels will start phasing out CDs and sell music on small flash cards. Akon has been announced as one of the very first artists whose music will appear in Best Buy and Wal-Mart in the new format. The packaging will be similar to CD packages and will include album art and such.
So will this work and breath new life in to the music industry? Hell no. If anyone who works for one of the major record companies is reading this, let me explain something. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO BUY MUSIC ANYMORE. No matter what format you put it in. I’ve always believed that the future of the record industry is not in retail, it’s in sponsorships and icensing. And can I also say that if you are trying to launch a new format, a thug clown like Akon IS NOT the artist you should get to introduce yours product. Fail.

Well said. I can’t agree with you more. The artists and management have caught on. Why won’t the folks who basically own their contracts just realized that and drop the ego trip.
