50 Cent Talks ‘Self-Destruct’ Movie
Fif chops it up about ‘Before I Self Destruct’ film

Rapper 50 Cent, spoke with Rolling Stone magazine, to discuss to the feature film that goes along his upcoming 4th Quarter LP release “Before I Self Destruct” (December 9). Both the film and the album sport the same name and will be released simultaneously. Here’s what Fitty had to say about the film:“It’s not Purple Rain, but it was inspired by the actual music” says 50.
The film — which isn’t autobiographical — aims to show the complexities of what 50 refers to as “urban life” in a new way: “When [movies] portray certain lifestyles they don’t show cause and effect,” he says. “But I showed characters under pressure in scenarios where they felt like there were no other options, even though there were.” He adds, “There are always options. People just usually start to see them while being incarcerated — for not seeing them in the first place.”
50 always being the business man and showing that he thinks 2 steps ahead finds a way to keep Interscope Records from taking change out of his pockets. He’s scored an entire different soundtrack for the film. All songs on the soundtrack, which will be used for the film, are entirely different songs from the actual LP release. It’s actually a pretty smart move and he’s actually going to give some unsigned artists a time shine while doing it.
Here are the details from Fif himself: “Interscope would automatically have the rights to it [if I use the songs from the actual album], when they had absolutely no ownership of the actual material,” says 50. Fif produced and directed the film, as well as, wrote all the songs that are on the soundtrack and recruited unsigned artists to record the vocals. Fearing fans might have concerns about the quality, he offers “I kept the music up to standards, I worked with it until it was right.”
