Jay-Z Starts Another Label, StarRoc?

Posted by Mike "Evorgleb" Belgrove

How many record labels does one man need?

From Music Information Center Norway:

Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen aka Stargate, the highly successful NYC-based production team, are joined by hip-hop mogul/icon Jay-Z as the three create a shiny new label christened StarRoc.

Eriksen and Hermansen relocated their studio from Manhattan to Jay-Zs Roc The Mic studios, and now the two take it to the next level by forming a new company.

Over the last few years, Stargate have written and produced a number of Billboard hits for such high profil artists as Beyonce Knowles, Rhianna and Ne-Yo.

What exactly is Jay-Z trying to do. He still has stake in Rocafella, We’ve reported in the past that he’s hooked up with Live Nation to create Roc Nation and now this? It seems like Jay-Z is less concerned about creating a solid and profitable business and more concerned with spreading his “Roc” brand to as many places as he can.

So what do you guys think? Smart business move or does he need to just sit done and concentrate on making one thing work before he moves onto the next? I think the “Jiggafro” is messing up his thinking.

He gettin’ so old, he puts the “Rocker” in Rocafella. LOL!

But seriously, I think Jigga is a Figga-head for white companies that need a black owner to obtain minority-owned business tax breaks. Trust me, it’s been done here in Chicago with certain construction companies.

Makes you think twice about whether “Russa Thimmons” (Russell Simmons) is really as powerful as we think he is.

I feel you Zach. We have these Minority Business Enterprise seminars that only licensed Minority businesses are supposed to attend and the room is always filled with white folks. But the funny thing is the process to get certified requires everything short of taking blood to make sure no non-minority companies slide through. Its crazy.

I’d need to see more on this. Could this be more of a production deal. Maybe this is an outfit under the RocNation umbrella? Yeah I’m confused.
