Dr. Michael Eric Dyson Spits Some Of That Nas
I knew he was a fan but who knew he could spit dat Nas?
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is an odd fellow. He is seen as a expert on Black issues. You’ve probably seen the guy on CNN or some other news network giving his opinion on whatever is going on in the world of black folk. The guy has a pretty impressive resume. He’s a Princeton graduate who happens to be an ordained minister and a college professor at Georgetown University. So it struck me as odd when I seen this video of him on the street reciting Nas lyrics. The video is weird in that Dyson goes back and forth between sounding like an intellectual and sounding like that dude who be outside the club smelling like liquor trying to get me to buy his CD.
Dyson actually has a book coming out when he breaks down each song on Nas‘ Illmatic and explains the science behind them. He truly is a Nas nut rider like no other. He goes as far as to call Nas “a genius”. Maybe he missed that Nastrodomus album.

This guy is a cornball. Even cornballs and nut riders got degrees.
Lol, true Juan, very true. But Dyson has intellectual skills to be reckoned with. The brotha can break down the sociological and idealogical like no other. Other than Cornell West and few others, I dare ANYBODY to go up against him. He and Cornell understand the hood and Wall Street, and wrap all of it up in the Black experience.
Very few men or women can take the knowledge that they have acquired scholastically and in life, apply it to independent issues, massage it all together and bring it on home.
While he definitely needs to keep his day job, the brother is baaaaad!
