Obama Opens up 8 Point Lead In Latest Gallup Poll. Reaches 50% High Water Mark.
Is it insurmountable?
Politico.com is reporting that apparently HALF of all eligible voters are in favor of Barack Obama for President this according to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll released Tuesday. The announcement marks the first time that the Democratic nominee has acheived the 50% threshold.Since the conclusion of the Democratic convention, Obama has risen 5 percentage points in the polls and now leads John McCain 50 percent to 42 percent. This is significant given the Republican National Convention is currently in session and it was believed initially that Obama’s previous 49% mark was the ceiling and would be short lived given McCain’s vice presidential announcement which was sure to tilt the tables slightly.
Whatever the case, one thing is clear no matter what you felt about Obama’s nomination acceptance speech, the momentum from the Democratic convention has yet to subside. With just over a month left to go in the race we’ll see if Barack’s lead is insurmountable.

Well most people expected Barack to get a bump in the polls after his party’s convention much like they expect the same to happen to McCain. But here’s the thing. The democrate had a super hype convention which ended in a mega ratings pulling speech by Obama. The republicans on the other end have had their convention crippled by Gustav and there is no indication that McCain “big speech” will get nearly as many viewers as Baracks. So I dont expect the republicans to get much of a bump coming out of theirs.
Exactly and with only a month to go and Barack having lead since before the conventions it may be tough to make up ground.
