I hear what you're saying but it sounds like sour grapes if you ask me. I commend him for sticking to his guns about the war no matter how wrong he was but he throws any stock he might have gained with me by deciding to side with the GOP because he got dissed.

Being a political junkie, I watched a good chunk of the convention. Fred Thompson gave a good speech. I’d be interested in finding out who wrote it.

Some background on Lieberman:

During the senate election of 2006, Joe was in the hot box because he was supporting the President on the Iraq war. He got himself in trouble with the democrats because he was quoted as saying that the democrats were obstructing the prosecution of the war.

In retaliation, the democratic leadership decided to dump him; so they openly sided (and funded) his primary opponent Ned Lamont. In the primary Lamont beat Lieberman 52-48.

Lieberman decided not to go down without a fight and ran as an independent. He won the general election 50-40. The republican nominee, Alan Schlesinger only scored 10% and most republicans sided with Lieberman.

Personally, I hold no grudge against Lieberman for doing this. You’re a sitting senator and your own party tries to shank you. I’d be pissed too.

Then again, I’m not big on party loyalty. I don’t think that voting for one party means that you are in a blood-oath to support that party forever.
