Barack Obama (Officially) Nominated By Democrats For President
No funny business at the convention
So if you’re as cynical as I am part of you wasn’t going to believe it until you saw it. We’ll if you watched the video below its all official…Democrats Wednesday officially nominated Barack Obama to be their candidate for president, making him the first African-American to ever become a major party nominee.
Appropriately enough it was Sen. Hillary Clinton asked to cut the roll call short saying, “With eyes firmly fixed on the future, and in the spirit of unity with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let’s declare together with one voice right here, right now that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president.”
I know its political grandstanding but an excellent move on behalf of the party to allow the defeated Sen. Hillary Clinton to conduct the roll call. Although its not necessarily comforting for her, following her riveting speech last night it really does go along way towards heeling the wounds and division among the party as symbolic as it may seem.
In addition one could definately say that she has saved her career that was in a downward spiral during the later portions of her nominative (is that a word?) campaign. It might seem like nothing but I’m going to give the DNC and Highbrid Salute for their convention thus far.
Side note: there was a very silly moment during the roll call when Massachusetts cast its vote and gave a nod to their beloved reigning champions, the Red Sox and Celtics. Shout to Malcolm for the video.

I for am excited about Obama for President. But I must be the only person who thinks Clinton did the most minimal to unite the party. Her speech was great but not once did she ever say Barack will make a good president. Instead I heard her say Michelle would be an excellent First Lady.
Either way, I’m so happy that Clinton spoke in favor of Obama. Hopefully the Democratic party will unite and elect Obama into office.
my man!
I agree that her speech last night, and her actions today saved her career.
Whereas he future was dark into a few days ago, her (finally) coming to the table has all but locked up her nomination in 2012 (after Obama’s second term)
There’s an old phrase that says “some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you”
The sh*t sandwich she had to eat, while not her preferred meal, was still necessary under the circumstances.
Well put as always Malcolm.
True. However, we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves in thinking he’ll make a second term. Let’s get through the first one and see where the cards fall.
Correction: Chips
ya, but assuming that he wins this time, he’d probably run for a second term, and she wouldn’t be able to run against the incumbent
