As Juan mentioned earlier, today is Highbrid’s birthday. Though we launched Highbrid Nation this month about 2 years ago, The Highbrid brand dates all the way back to 2000. When a bunch of guys attending West Virginia University decided they were going to pull together their ideas, talent, skills and resources together a “highbrid” [hybrid] was born.

2 years ago when I presented my idea to the other partners in Highbrid for creating a website even I wasn’t convinced it would be a success. With very little experience or focus in blogging I figured we could at least cover our web fees if nothing else. Little did I know that Highbrid Nation would go on to become one of the best and fastest growing urban blogs on the net. Not only can the tireless staff of the site be thanked for that but the readers must be thanked for that. Everyday we have thousands of loyal readers coming to this site. Many of whom take it a step further by adding to the discussion by commenting on posts or even sending us tips on breaking news stories. That’s why us staff want to give back to the people who have built this site’s community.

So this is the plan, Highbrid Nation is going to give a $100 gift card to the reader who between now and next Tuesday contribute the most to Highbrid Nation. How do you contribute? Commenting on the site, sending us ideas for posts and spreading the word will all count towards the prize. Myself along with the rest of the staff will decide who is the HN MVP (most vauluble participant ) that will get the Highbrid Nation Birthday Prize. We will be keeping an eye out and will be watching to see who’s our MVP. We’ll be making the final choice and announcement next Tuesday.
