Rock The Vote…From Your Couch: Register To Vote Via Xbox Live

Posted by Juan

Is this really a functional feature?

Xbox Live

Microsoft has announced a strategic partnership with Rock The Vote that will allow Xbox 360 gamers the ability to register to vote via Xbox Live.

Now I’d be very curious to know what the response is because although I’m sure there are some diehard gamers that spend more time gaming online then anything else.  But something in me doubts this will be an enticing feature.  Let people VOTE from their Xbox?  Now we’re talking but clearly we’re not there technologically and obviously not security wise (See the Florida Recount)

What Rock the Vote was probably looking at was that “if Xbox LIVE were a state, it would rank as the country’s seventh largest, giving it approximately 20 electoral votes” according to the press release. In addition to registering to vote, gamers can participate in scientific straw polls.

Sounds like a great concept, but I agree with Juan on this one, just another way for them to gamble votes as they did in Florida.

I’m sorry but…this is some of the stupidest crap I’ve ever come across.

Matter fact…how about fixing all these “red lights” Microsoft!? Instead of getting involved in something that someone else is already prone to mess up, I.E. what Cahmod’ said.

Even if this capability exists I do wonder what the ratio of those who register to those who actually vote would be.

It’s a very tech saavy way to get the younger generation involved. I just don’t see how it could be that reliant or a great contribution to getting younger possible voters.
