U.S. REP. Stephanie Tubbs Jones suffered brain hemorrhage

Tubbs Jones

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, 58, who was the first black woman elected to Congress in the state of Ohio, died Wednesday after suffering an aneurysm while driving her car.  She was 58.

Spokeswoman, Eileen Sheil said the Democratic congresswoman died after suffering a brain hemorrhage and subsequent aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function

Tubbs Jones had been seen driving “erratically” in the Cleveland Heights with her vehicle crossing into on-coming traffic lanes according to police.  The responding officer found Tubbs Jones in medical distress and had to pull his cruiser across the roadway to warn oncoming traffic.

Those of you not from Ohio may remember Tubbs Jones as one of the most vocal superdelegates supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton.  Taking office in 1998 she repped her overwhelming Democratic district and was the first black woman to serve on the very influential Ways and Means Committeewhere she locked horns with President Bush’s tax and Social Security plans.  She also at one point was the chair of the Ethics Committe in the House of Delegates. We remember U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
