Music video producer turned Hollywood director, F. Gary Gray is slated to direct a very interesting adaptation of William Shakespeare’sJulius Caesar.” The film which will be based off Antony Johnston and Brett Weldele’s graphic novel “Julius,” is a contemporary urban crime adaptation of world-renown classic.

According to Variety, Mandalay Pictures president Cathy Schulman said Gray “has a vision for this adaptation that will satirize obsessive consumerism while providing a thrilling ride for audiences.”

Sounds very interesting could be really good. I’m thinking Julius Caesar meets Belly.  Although Gray was often labeled earlier in his career as simply a music video director he’s had several big screen successes including “The Italian Job” and “The Negotiator.” I’m expecting him to really show his ass in this film.

  1. I haven’t read Caesar since high school so I really dont remember too much other than Julius getting stabbed in the back at the end by someone close to him. I wonder how closely Gray’s film will follow the play.

I majored in Shakespeare so I’m doubly interested. I think I’ll get the graphic novel while I’m in the Village today..
