NBA’s David Stern to Establish NBA-Affiliated League in China
billions of cake to be made, wants presence in India also
Ahh yes global NBA. Today NBA commissioner David Stern announced that he has a goal to establish a 10-12 NBA affiliated league in China. Its mega cake to be made there and the country as a whole loves the NBA and are waiting to be paying customers. In China alone, Yao Ming is the 3rd most popular nba icon after Kobe Bryant & Lebron James. Got hornets has more click that link.

what ever happened to adding 5 European teams to the NBA? was that idea just scraped?
i doubt it, it will be done in stages, test runs and all that, 10 yr. goal for that

If the NBA can get their way, they’ll be a league in most of the world’s 200+ nations.
What I hope the league takes into consideration is that the Chinese market is a risky one. I have studied this as a grad student in Marketing recently. People assume things about Chinese consumers, but they might not want a league.
Sure, Yao Ming is popular because of the context in which he plays. He is a Chinese big man in the United States. I’m not sure if a U.S. big man would have the same impact in China.
The Chinese are not as reserved as we think they are, but they aren’t as liberal either. We shall see.
