Ahh yes global NBA.  Today NBA commissioner David Stern announced that he has a goal to establish a  10-12 NBA affiliated league in China.  Its mega cake to be made there and the country as a whole loves the NBA and are waiting to be paying customers.  In China alone, Yao Ming is the 3rd most popular nba icon after Kobe Bryant & Lebron James.  Got hornets has more click that link.

Mike and Marcus,

If the NBA can get their way, they’ll be a league in most of the world’s 200+ nations.

What I hope the league takes into consideration is that the Chinese market is a risky one. I have studied this as a grad student in Marketing recently. People assume things about Chinese consumers, but they might not want a league.

Sure, Yao Ming is popular because of the context in which he plays. He is a Chinese big man in the United States. I’m not sure if a U.S. big man would have the same impact in China.

The Chinese are not as reserved as we think they are, but they aren’t as liberal either. We shall see.
