Spain’s B-Ball Team Making Chinese Eyes. Is This Racist Or What?
I’m happy to see the that the US is not the only place with racist clowns.
Marcus has already posed a great question for the day but I really wanted to run this past HN readers. As some of you may have already have seen on the news Spain’s basketball team took a picture making “Chinese Eyes” and are now catching a ton of heat for it. I wanted to ask you all what you thought. Is this racist or just some guys being goofy?
When asked about the picture some of Spain’s team said that they weren’t trying to be racist but just being “light hearted” but other team members actually put the blame on the photographer who they said made them do it.

thats some silly shit
I kind of miss the old days when it wasn’t illegal to offend someone.
These guys are kids, and kids will often act without considering the historical and geopolitical significance of their actions.
There are enough instances of real racism to fill the cable news broadcasts every day; we don’t need to reach for problems where they probably don’t exist.
Sometimes a cigar is a cigar, and not every act of silliness is a hate crime.
My question: when the time comes that we have a Native American running for president, will the term “Joint Chief of staff” be considered offensive?
Good One!
I’m of the opinion that they were trying to make something visually appealing. There’s something called cultural relativism that we need to keep in mind especial when dealing with international relations and the olympics. It was obviously designed for “artistic” value. What offends here isn’t what offends in Spain and more importantly in China. I agree it’s a little weird but its INTENT wasn’t to offend an obviously was thought out. I don’t get it but like with many ads not geared toward me I often don’t.
Is this Racism? The simple answer is no. I just HATE how Racism is so trivial now. The n-word, slanty eyes. My grandfather is in heaven somewhere looking down on this saying, I COULDN’T VOTE, I COULDN’T EAT WHERE I WANTED TO EAT. There are other generations looking down on this saying, I was a slave, I was getting lynched. This is just a picture.
