Tropic Thunder Mini-Review

Posted by Mike "Evorgleb" Belgrove

There has been a lot of hype. So how well did the film live up to it?

Last night I had the chance to catch a midnight showing of Tropic Thunder and I was exactly sure what to expect. I didn’t know much other than it had Robert Downy Jr. playing a white actor playing a black guy. Apparently thats all I needed to know because Downy stole the show as Kirk Lazarus. Robert Downy is very convincing and funny as a black guy. So much show that you forget he’s not black until one of the other characters brings it back to your attention and his. Jack Black comes in to his own towards the end of the film and delivers some hilarious moments also. Ben Stiller, who is usually hit or miss in his films, even carried his weight. The laughs come at a rapid rate. Even when the movie appears to get tense and serious it breaks the tension with something utterly ridiculous (Such as Tom Cruise’s evil movie exec character explaining his evil plan while dancing to Flo-Rida’s “Get Lo”)

Bottom Line: Robert Downy makes this movie but the rest of the cast hold there own in what may be the funniest movie of the summer (sorry Pineapple Express). I strongly recommend seeing this film.

Cool. I know people are protesting and whatever but the bottomline is “is it funny?” and you answered that.

the movie was very funny. I’ve heard the stories about people protesting and I think its dumb. Yes the make fun of people who are mentally challenged. So What. Its comedy and its supposed to be offensive. The best comedy usually is offensive to someone. When we live in a world where people take even comedy serious, then we have some serious problems.
