Wire’s ‘Omar’ To Play In Off-Broadway Production About Drag Queens

Posted by Juan

Maybe there is some credence to his sexual orientation

Michael Kenneth Williams

Michael Kenneth Williams has secured his first major roles since appearing as Baltimore drug dealer’s worst gay nightmare on HBO’sThe Wire.” He will now appear as a character in the Off-Broadway play Wig Out!  According to a press release, the production tells “the story of two competing ‘houses’ of drag queens, and the loyalties and dreams which pull their members together and apart.”  The leads are performed by Rebecca Naomi Jones and celebrated drag performer Daniel T. Boothe (aka Sweetie.)

Whoa!  They say that HBO series type cast a performer but if you really want to be pigeonholed as a gay actor just follow in the footsteps of Williams.  Not a good look if he ever wants to get some real work.  I saw him a few years back as the Wire was winding down auditioning for a reacquiring role in Law & Order: SVU but perhaps it was his recognized on screen behavior which didn’t land him the job.  Get it together!

I thought we had seen it ALL when Wesley Snipes hurt our eyesight as the ugliest man/woman thangy when he played Noxeema Jackson! He will have some stiff competition with Williams.
