C'mon man, After two years (one of which would be in Iraq) its hard to keep your body in football shape. No he's not helping the world by playing football, but what about his family. He can do a hell of a lot more for his family playing football than he can in the Army, trust. I could see if a player from Army got drafted every year. I been in the Army for 11 years, 2LT Campbell aint hurting nobody by going to the League. They snatching his dream away. What if it was you? Put yourself in his shoes. Would you rather go to training camp or Fort Hood, TX?

I know how you feelin' out there and I hope you get home safe and quick.

But if this guy is good enough to go as a draft pick wouldnt he still likely be good enough for the NFL after his 2 years are up?

I don't know Im kinda indifferent but I would like to one standard set for everyone. If none of those are getting out of their contracts with the army than he shouldnt either. Its not like hes somehow helping the world by playing football.

Great post. My question is wouldn't his intrinsic value as a representative of the institution in the NFL moonlighting as a recruiter be more than if he goes into active duty? Sometimes the tradition gets in the way of common sense.

West Point is a hard college to get in. And no one goes there who doesnt plan to at least spend a few years in the army. As far as I knew, anyone who goes to West Point is contractually Obligated to do at least two years in US Army upon graduation. So i'm wondering how were these football players getting out of that clause in the first place to get drafted.
