Flip Flop Award: Nas Back to Attacking FOX News, Joins Political Petition against Network

Posted by Juan

Back to bitting the hand that feeds you

Nas

In politics there’s something known as a flip flopper.  Its a term used (mostly by Republicans) to describe and disparage a candidate who they believe frequently changes their mind or opinion on an issue.  Obviously this is not positive characteristic for an ideal candidate running for office.

Recently that same title was placed on Brett Farve, the former/current Green Bay Packers QB who perennially threatens to retire, this year did but now wants back on the field and has put the team in a very awkward spot.  Brett obviously has had some great decision making skills in the pocket but it doesn’t translate off the field.  As a dig, A minor league baseball team, The Augusta Green Jackets honored Brett Farve by giving away Flip Flops, a tongue-in-cheek reference unfortunately lost on many who received them.

Today we honor our very own flip flopper: Nasir “Nas” Jones.  Nas doesn’t necessarily change his mind a lot however he does play both sides of the fence particular in this issue I ranted about last week with Fox! First Nas was upset with how FoxNews spewed venom about his inclusion in a Virginia Tech “Stop the Violence” concert given his (or hip hop in general’s) track record of violence.  In retaliation and in the vengeful spirit of exactly what FoxNews was attempting to highlight, Nas released the diss record “Sly Fox.”

Whether the Queens, NY native had a legitimate gripe is beside the point.  We know all about the tactics used by FoxNews.  Its nothing new but when he turns around and ACCEPTS a gig to perform before a private group of his MySpace friends in Cali.  He looks like a flip flopper. (MySpace is obviously owned by NewsCorp which also owns FoxNews.)

If that isn’t enough he’s now jumped back onto the other side of the fence and according to Billboard will join the members of political organizations Color of Change and Move On today (July 23) in delivering a petition to Fox News’ New York office.   The petition is said to try and convince the media juggernaut to stop their biased and aggressive coverage of black Americans, specifically Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

I hope that petition also includes Nas’ declaration that he is GIVING back his MySpace concert appearance fee and any royalties obtain as a result.  Fat chance huh?

Stop hating! Let him live on this, barely sold over 100K on last album. Your last article (7/16/08) said “It seems that Nas will actually be performing a free show for his MySpace friends in Hollywood later this week”, keyword free. And the music is for his MySpace users, and I know you guys have MySpace accounts. I don’t think NewsCorp is gonna buy his album. Everybody has flip-flopped once in their live.
