In some very disturbing news, The Emmy nominations were announced early yesterday (Thursday) morning and much to my and I’m sure the Nation’s chagrin, there was no sign of HBO’s critically-acclaimed series “The Wire.” WHAT!!!

I make no qualms about being a fanatic for the late, great show, The Wire. I’ve shared with you time and time again how I feel about the show’s writing and how it could have possibly been the best show on television since the Cosby’s. Well now that The Wire has concluded, and the Emmy voters have not recognized its genius as we all have they have officially missed out on their final chance to be nominated in the drama category.

I’m outraged! It was not just the program’s police and drug dealing content that reeled its viewers in. It was the graphic detail with which we all came to know the streets of Baltimore, its people, customs and unfortunate dark side. It was the way the writers weaved the must-see drama over five seasons with such intricate character development that made us love the bad guys, loathe the good ones and feeling like we grew up with every one of them. Although the show had its cult following and the support of the Highbrid Nation, it is gone and will soon fade into the HBO archives but we will never forget the impact it had on this community…and our Sunday nights.
