Usher To Rehire His Mom To Her Post As Manager?
Unhappy with album sales, the singer may look to get back the winning formula
New York Daily News gossip columnists, Rush & Malloy are reporting that Usher is considering rehiring his mom, Jonetta Patton back to her post as manager. He of course fired her on Mother’s Day in 2007 fueling internet controversy that the move was the work of his then Fiance Tameka Foster, but “now that Foster has given her a grandson, the two ladies are said to be getting along better,” the column states.
Usher’s affairs are currently being handled by Benny Medina, the superstar manager who touts a clientele of Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, among others.
“But now that Usher’s new album has been slow off the mark, he’s blaming Medina,” according to Rush & Malloy. “True, the CD, ‘Here I Stand,’ debuted at number one. But Usher is said to have been disappointed that it sold 433,000 in its first week, compared with his last CD, 2004’s “Confessions,” which had sales of 1.1 million in its first seven days.”
“Usher was livid!,” claims an insider. “He threatened to fire everyone.”
Apparently Usher was also angered by the viewership of the BET Awards!? Although the show pulled 6.3 million viewers when Beyonce opened it last year, this year’s performance which was headlined by Usher only drew only 5.8 million and he feels that’s a bad reflection of him…and thus blames his manager.
“People have been telling Usher to listen to his mother,” says a source. “Nobody knows how to sell him better than she does. Usher can be stubborn. But he may be ready.”
