First Look: Barack Obama On Ebony
Obama graces Ebony as part of their “25 Coolest Brothers of All Time†but is it really a “good look”?
Most of us are gonna look at Barack Obama on the cover of the new Ebony and think that he does indeed look “cool”. And most of us would love to have a president that actually has a bit of swagger. Unfortunately Ebony may be doing more harm than good. This cover is part of Ebony’s “25 Coolest Brothers of All Time” (other cover for the same month include Jay-Z, Muhammad Ali, Marvin Gaye, Samuel L. Jackson, Prince, Billie Dee Williams and Denzel) may have a nagative affect on certain demographics..
Barack has recently been trying to court blue collar white American votes which are more likely to get behind McCain or even Hillary had she won the Democratic nomination. Appearing as the “cool black guy” doesn’t exactly help him reach those voters. It actually will likely help turn them off entirely to Barack. Coal miners from West Virginia don’t want someone with swagger.
The Obama campaign should try to get with some of these black publications to help control the image of Barack they portray or his campaign is gonna get buried by the very people who are so proud of him.
I ain’t gonna lie though, he looks pretty cool on that cover.
Also check Juan’s post “Donatella Versace’s Spring Line Inspired By and Dedicated to Barack Obama!” which people are saying will have a similar negative effect on Obama’s image.

Good article, I agree
Unique point of view, Mike- as always. I completely agree with you.
And although I am tired of Obama covering Ebony/JET, I must admit that he DOES look cool.
my man!
