Jay-Z Buying The Yankees? Jigga Playing Possum Or All Talk
How can Mr. Brooklyn get down with the Bronx?
No one will ever accuse Jay-Z’s portfolio of playing favorites. His investments strategy defines what diversification is all about with interests including Armadale Vodka, Roc-A-Wear, The New Jersey Nets and of course all of his new Roc Nation collaborative music empire. Well the blogosphere is buzzing today about Jigga’s aspirations to add pinstripes to that portfolio…yes The New York Yankees.
However, much of that might be what we Dominicans call “bochinche” or nonsense. You might remember a while back there was a rumor about Jay buying stake in English powerhouse the Arsenal Football club. Jigga tells Time Out Magazine “I had invested in the Nets, and they (Arsenal bosses) asked me if I was interested in investing. But I get that from time to time,” Jigga explained to London’s Time Out Magazine.
“Someone told me yesterday that someone else had a piece of the New York Yankees - ‘We wanna talk to you, yadda yadda yadda.’ I mean, I love the Yankees so I’m in the middle of following that through, but sometimes it comes to be nothing. That (Arsenal) was one of the times it came to nothing.”
Is Jay-Z playing possum? Is this one of those things like his marriage that he denies that there is any real seriousness in then all of a sudden it hits the presses full throttle? Â
As a born and bread Brooklyn boy, I know Brooklyn doesn’t eff with the Bronx too tough and vice versa. I understand this is a business deal and one might say it transcends all that territorial shenanigans but we’re not talking about taking Jay supplanting the Steinbrenner regime or anything just owning a controlling interest. I’m not sure how profitable such an investment might be so I’m sure its more for status anyway. That considered, Jigga would have to examine how such a move would effect his image. I know they’re are a lot of Brooklyn Yankees fans so maybe this is just me being a Mets fan watching the subway series but I would seriously doubt such a move would seriously gain steam. We’ll see. Lets go Mets!

It may come down to him buying a box in the new stadium.
the yankees are the most profitable professional sports franchise period. As large as Jigga’s money is, I don’t think he could affors to buy anything beyond a teeny sliver of the team.
Exactly with the shares being so expensive and the fact he may only be able to acquire a small sliver it may not infact be profitable.
if this goes official this will be some major news
steinbrenners will block that maybe, kov is on super ritualistic level level though, might slide it right to them
Its marketing initiative to help baseball appeal to African americans. I played back in the day and wish I would have stayed at. I was pretty good and probably could have went pro. My highschool has a time but the kids the could play base ball sold drugs or didn’t have the grades to play.
That’s an interesting thought but it would have to be on a more national scale.
