Apple iTunes Tops 5 Billion Song Download Mark
Monopoly on music
Yesterday Apple announced that music fans across the globe have now purchased and downloaded a whopping FIVE BILLION SONGS from the iTunes Store. iTunes is now the undisputed champion of music retailing in the US* with a music catalog with over eight million songs in addition to it new move rental services design to compete with Netflix.
I wanted to post this because I wanted the Nation to wrap their brain around the enormity of 5 Billion Songs. Remember LEGAL downloading is a relatively new concept. For years we’ve heard music industry executives and artists alike flounder and complain about how the industry has “changed” well this is proof of where it has gone! Don’t get it confused however, folks may say music is dead….OH NO it’s very much alive but if you want it…Apple’s going to more than likely take their cut in order for you to get it.
Props to outlets like TOUR-mag.com for providing an alternative. Paz.

iTunes is doing big numbers but Amazon is positioning itself to take a huge peice of that pie. And Amazon has the clear advatage in that they off all music DRM free. That means you can play any of your songs on anything, no problem.
