Stepping Out of Pharrell’s Shadow: Chad Hugo Emerges

Posted by Juan

Says he’s tired of playing the background.

Chad Hugo

Yesterday, Nekesa Mumbi Moody an Associated Press journalist profiled Chad Hugo, the other half of the Neptunes super-production team. We’ve become so accustomed to seeing Pharrell as the face of the StarTrack brand which includes the Neputnes and their eclectic group N.E.R.D. He’s always the one in the videos, on the red carpet and has even launched clothing, shoe and jewelry lines.

But according to Hugo that’s about to change.

“I used to think that being in the back was cool and it is cool. But nah, you’ve gotta get recognized…Pharrell is a talented mastermind and he gets what he deserves, he works hard and he’s very creative and I don’t think that anything should be taken away from that.”

In addition to his recent work on Alicia Keys latest album, Chad Hugo has always been a major part of the  Neptunes tracts.  If you’re into production, are a N.E.R.D. yourself or just hate Pharrell this is a real good read.
