Def Jam Shuts Down Janet Jackson’s ‘Discipline’ Over Creative Differences

Singer has beef with the label. Go figure!

Well she’s definately not the first artist to have problems with Def Jam and probably won’t be the last. According to SOHH.com, Def Jam has reportedly stopped promoting Janet Jackson’s latest album “Discipline” and will not be releasing any further records off the project despite her plans to kick off her first US tour in nearly seven years in September.

“That’s pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point,” Janet said when asked about the release of her next single. ” We started off with ‘Feedback’ and the label and myself haven’t quite seen eye to eye since the ‘Feedback’ single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion.”

“I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album.”

I don’t understand why Def Jam a) stays in business if they keep flopping on all these projects and b) if they can’t be on the same page with some of the proven select artists that they DO have, why the need to constantly sign more? I’m no record executive and won’t ever claim to be a music mogul but if you can’t sell Janet somethings really wrong. She should go gold in her sleep with her international acclaim. I wonder why she’s not on her husband/boyfriend’s label, wouldn’t that make more sense?
