MARKETING MATTERS: Usher To Be the New Face of Sony Ericsson’s Walkman Music Phone
Will be key component in ad campaign and special contesting
Despite appearing to spend all his time defending his wife, their relationship and trying to promote his fifth album, “Here I Stand,” Usher has actually been able to squeeze in a little love for corporate America. Billboard.biz is reporting that the singer/song writer/ dancing fool announced a partnership with Sony Ericsson. Urrrsher will become world wide spokesman for their new Walkman music phone that they’ll be releasing in the fall.
As part of the campaign fans will be granted exclusive access to content and compete for a chance to vin a meet-and-greet with Usher on a video shoot or VIP passes for his tour later this year which consequently is also sponsored by Sony Ericsson. In addition, fans will also help select who Usher will tour with.
Is it me or did L.L. and Sears just announce similar marketing schematics? Where’s the creativity? This is tired and recycled. I guess Sony Ericsson is just subscribing to the old adage “if it aint broke don’t fix it.” After all recycled is in…consider it green marketing planning. Ok that’s a stretch.

A stretch but it fits.
I’m surprised there is no Usher branded phone like the Beyonce phone. I really still wonder how many people bought that.
