Jermaine Dupri Signs You tube Artist
Is this the wave of the future or just another Gimic?
Jermaine Dupri signed you tube phenom Phatfffat to his So So Def Imprint after the artist received over 1 million you tube views of her covering popular R&B songs. J.D. had this to say about the deal:
“I heard y’all say how much more aggressive record companies should be in making full use of all that the Internet has to offer,†says Dupri. “Our own web sites should be leading the way in the digital space. But they’re not. It’s all one media, and these days the digital space is way more powerful than outlets like print and television.â€
I pose this question to you out there in the Nation do you feel that this is a new way for labels to find and sign great talent, or is it a case of trying to cash in quick on some Soulja Boy Tell em type of momentum?

To answer your question: Both.
How else are artist supposed to get noticed? With video taking over the net like it is you have to get your face out there. You aren’t always going to get picked up at the train station singing for dollar. Take it to the web. It already has a built in audience. Also, what is better for a record label than an artist who already had a fan base? You can’t beat that.
^^^Truth, Everybody doing what they can in this new age I call “Click ‘N’ Go promotion,” many investing a couple $$$ to doll up their myspace pages and/or Facebook’s an what have you. An it bein more of the online hit counts you get than how many mixtapes you sold independently on the streets(soundscanning) thats catchin the attention. Even though Universal tried that an failed(with them Crank Dat Batman dudes). If I was a label head, I’d try this because I know that there are cats with money to promo straight TRASH…but a lot of talent goes without recognition cause of lacking funds & time to proceed.
1st off this kid got the bonks adventure head
makes sense, a lil of both
ROFLMAO!!! Truth!
