On Saturday, May 24, 2008, AMW’s Josh Walsh covered a case involving 32 year old Carlos “Zoo” Thompson. An “enforcer” who traveled with the “Dips” to gigs and parties, as muscle when they encountered ‘beef’ an whatnot from other hip hop factions.
He is accused of giving a 13-year-old, L’Mani Delima a 38 caliber weapon gun on June 16, 2005 and ordering him to shoot 15-year-old Phoenix Garrett in Harlem. This was after Thompson and a group of individuals noticed Phoenix on 144th St. with a cd labeled “Dipset Crew” in his possession.
Reports say, after Thompson threaten and lunged at him, Phoenix was able to pull out a box cutter and scar “Zoo’s” face. Unfortunatly the 15-year-old recieved a series of beat-downs from the men who came with Thompson. In that time Thompson told another member of his crew to ‘go get my gun.’ Phoenix was able to briefly get away from the pack around the corner, but was caught by the men who proceeded to beat him up some more. That is when the gun was handed to the youngest member of the mob, 13-year-old, L’mani Delima, and when given the order to shoot, shot Phoenix Garrett 5 times.
The 13-year-old shooter was caught by a police lieutenant at the scene, who almost shot and killed the teen.

“If that man had killed that boy, there would have been marches against police brutality,” James claimed. “And everybody would have forgotten about Phoenix. Instead, this lieutenant avoided violence, and saved another child’s life.”

The the 13 year old(now 16) looking at a possible 8 years, will be sentenced next month.
