Looks like we’ve finally come to the end of the litigation process surrounding the battle between Star of the infamous shock jock morning radio show “Star and Buc Wild” and Queens, New York city councilman John Liu (the aspiring mayor.)

It all initially popped off after Star, whose real name is Troi Torain, issued an aggressive and semi-sexual rant about rival radio personality, DJ Envy’s wife and 4-year-old daughter leading to a child endangerment charge and his dismissal from his Clear Channel syndicated radio slot. The Queens city councilman John Liu stepped and called him a “sick, racist, pedophile.”

When the charges were dropped, the recently fired Star issued a defamation suit against the city councilman which was dropped twice claiming Liu was “within his rights.” Earlier this week, the Federal Court of Appeals court supported this ruling saying that the councilman did not defame the shock jock, contending that expressions of pure opinion rather than statements of fact are protected by the Constitution.

As a person familiar with both parties I feel the need to fill in some gaps for THE NATION. Lets not get it twisted, Star has built his career around controversy. It was a formula that was invented by Don Imus, passed onto Howard Stern and adopted by Star. Two of the three got burned by the formula and one got rich…really rich on satellite. So its no surprise that Star would say something about DJ Envy (whose real name is Raashaun Casey) or his family, especially since Evny is employed at the very station he got his radio start in and would later leave in a furious rant.

On the other hand, John Liu’s hands are by no means clean here. He’s an opportunist as well. In our profession lives, our paths have crossed on a number of occasions and I’ve even sat in his office and was fed a plate of pure political bullsh*t. He’s the Asian version of Al “Captain African America” Sharpton. He’s the guy who appears on TV here in New York whenever something bad happens. He’s the first one to speak out condemning people’s actions. He is purely motivated by exposure and Star’s dumb out offered him yet another chance to get his name in the press. HE’S THE CITY COUNCIL’S CHAIR OF TRANSPORTATION FOR GOD SAKES. He has NO political interest in Star’s unfortunate comments other than to provide him with yet another soapbox upon which he can mount in effort to become the first Asian-American to win a seat in City Hall. So don’t act all high and mighty like you were honestly concerned for the well being of Envy’s family…I’ve been watching you.
