Ultimately, Nas was swayed by Quality Of the Album Not Money In decision To Diss “Nigger”

Posted by Juan

Nas Issues Nigger Name Change Statement. In My opinion this wasn’t about money…for once.

nas

Earlier this week we told you that Nas has dropped the “Nigger” name from his unreleased album and instead will leave the album self-titled. Well he has now released a statement regarding the decision:

“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans. It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”

To me I think Nas began to realize that the album was actually really good and didn’t need any gimicks or controversial titles to make it memorable. Everyone might want to point to the fact that the album may have never been released to stores without a name change and that may be true but this, at least in my opinion wasn’t a money decision.

I’m the most cynical member of the Nation and I’ll always point to the bottom dollar as more often than not being the determinant factor in business decisions but in this case and judging from what I’ve heard and the collaborations that Nas has been able to secure…he felt this album was so fire that the content would broadcast a more political and lasting message than any nigga’s title could ever do. Sound off Nation!
