Spike Lee’s Beef With Clint Eastwood: Why Did He leave Out The Brothers in His Iwo Jima Flicks?

Spike takes a jab at Clint in Cannes while his new movie addresses the black soldier’s impact on World War II

Spike Lee

Spike Lee’s got a beef with fellow filmaker/actor Clint Eastwood over his two recent Iwo Jima flicks asking the question, “What about the brothers?

When asked about his upcoming film “Miracle at St. Anna,” about a black U.S. division fighting in Italy during the World War II, Spike said Eastwood’s 2006 movies “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima” neglected the black soldiers.

“He did two films about Iwo Jima back to back and there was not one black soldier in both of those films,” Lee said Tuesday at the Cannes Film Festival.

“Many veterans, African-Americans, who survived that war are upset at Clint Eastwood. In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist. Simple as that. I have a different version,” Lee said.

A reporter tried to ask for Eastwood for reaction to Lee’s criticism during a press conference for his upcoming flick “Changeling,” but the moderator cut his throat and told reporters to limit questions to the current project.

Something tells me Eastwood was relieved and probably won’t be revisiting that issue by his own initiation. What is it with people? Why are they so scared to address race? Did Eastwood fear “Flags of Our Fathers” or “Letters From Iwo Jima” would be any less visually appealing if he threw a couple token black soldiers in the flick or better yet addressed their role in the war? I’m tired of black film makers lead by Spike feeling that they have to pick up the black history slack for their white counterparts.

I’ll never watch another Clint Eastwood movie. That old white beast is close to death anyway and going to hell for being a lying racist. Of course blacks had something to do with that war - blacks always had something to do with the success of this country. America would never had been America or a prosperous great country without black Americans but the only thing is White racists never wanted blacks to have anything even though the Whites were poor and needy until the Slaves were brought over here by the British. Whites have lied and kept blacks out of the history of America that’s the reason Clint Eastwood could not “FIND” any information on the records he used for that movie. The only reason why most blacks are poor and everyone is doing good in America is because Whites treat anyone who more resembles them by color or straight hair type - they are just lying racist. Whites love calling blacks poor. I’m glad there is a place called Hell they are soon going to.

In ‘letters’ some of the few white soldiers they showed murdered a Japanese soldier AFTER they captured him. So it’s not like all the American soldiers where painted in a good light in the movie. IF they showed the scene with black soldiers they would be cries of racism. The movies only focused on a few American soldiers.(mainly the white and native American soldiers with raising the flag in Fathers or the fact the Letters is a movie about the Japaneses perspective of the War, not American and not African-American. IT was about the Japanese, so some need to grow up)

I wonder if St. Anne will have a mention of the highest decorated group of American soldiers in Europe, Japaneses-Americans?

Lets talk about history and the history of the buffalo soldiers name? I wonder in the movies will ever show the American soldier in the West raping, killing and removing Native_Americans. Black have been involved in every military action in the US and that one too. IF one is so concerned in showing true history, it seems the purposely forgot that fact.
