BUSINESS MATTERS: Crocs Video Network. When Extending Your Brand Goes Wrong

Posted by Juan

What is Crocs thinking?

Crocs

Ordinarily I wouldn’t report on Crocs.  After all they are the god awful pastel colored rubber clogs  that have infested the suburbs and scream doo doo fashion.  Well recently I wrote a scathing post called  “Doo Doo Business - Fab Signs on To Crocs Sponsored Tour - Why the “Cut The Check” defense doesn’t apply.” in response to Fab’s head scratcher of a partnership with rockers OneRepublic for Croc’s Next Step Campus Tour

Now it seems the quirky people over at Crocs have completely gone nuts.   entrepreneurs take note…this is NOT how you market your brand. The shoe company that, to their credit has been wilding successful, has launched an online video network designed to showcase walking tours of travel destinations around the world.  Why you ask?  I HAVE NO IDEA…it sounds like the silliest idea to me.

If the idea isn’t silly enough, the network is mad 8 bit Nintendo style.  Unlike YouTube, the videos aren’t interactive or sharable which would lend it to viral marketing.  Plus you can’t even subscribe via RSS.  Might want to go back to drawing board Crocs.  By the way is Fabolous still rocking them?!
