New Details Emerge On ‘Cleveland’ Series: Do The Sterotypes Shown Set Blacks Back?
“The Family Guy” Annimated Spin Off features “Cleveland” the Stereotypical black dude.
New details are emerging on “Cleveland,” the spinoff of the animated Fox series “Family Guy.” Mike told you about it back in February. Â According to the Hollywood Reporter, its first season will feature 13 episodes. “Family Guy” creators Seth MacFarlane, Rich Appel and Mike Henry are currently getting their support staff together but writers are said to begin work May 19 for an initial first table read on the first week of July.
This show represents Fox’s first new animated series in three years. “Cleveland” will follow the family life of Cleveland Brown, the most level-headed-and slow-talking-of Peter’s friends on “Family Guy.” Cleveland represents the stereotypes. Back in season four, Cleveland divorced his wife Loretta Brown, whom he divorced was having an affair with one of his friends. He also has a hyperactive and ADD-afflicted son, Cleveland Jr.
I’ve never been a Family Guy kind of person. Honestly not a huge sitcom fan at all. I get the whole stereotypical bit and how it can be funny but it’s a little played to me. I know “The Family Guy” had a huge following and I’m sure this will do well also but I wonder if it does more to promote racial stereotypes by its obvious parody than it does to eliminate them.

What is the 4th, 5th return?

I never saw Cleveland as being stereotypical. I think there are stereotypical aspects to the character but I dont think he’s soley a stereotype.
He is divorced with a child. Which tells me that he was married at some point. Which also tells me that he could be drawn in a lighter skin tone and pass for white.
Don’t they say black people don’t get married and pop out babies all over the place?
The moment they have this dude being hit with child support from a bunch of jump offs and sitting on welfare and receiving a monthly government handout then I’ll start looking at Fox and questioning their motives.
Cleveland is definitely not the typical black guy. If you watch the show I think he’s more like a puny white guy in a fat black guys body
family guy is hilarious, the story is always stupid but stewy is funny they should make a movie
so yall are cool with his character? Like I said I’m not a fan of the show but the press release even uses the term “stereotypical” that’s why I’m asking.
Isn’t it stereotypical just the fact that he’s the “token black dude?” I mean, aside from his kid, he’ll probably be the only black guy in his own show.
Doesn’t every white person on TV have a “token black friend?”
Being the main character in his own show can lead to different supporting characters. They can add a cousin or brother into the mix.
we’ll have to see. Maybe he’ll have the toke white friend.
