Billboard.com is reporting that Maroon 5 and Rihanna have teamed up for the most unlikely partnership. They have recorded a remix of Maroon’s single “If I Never See Your Face Again.”

Def Jam plans to re-issue Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad“ which is slated for release June 17, and ironically enough, according to A&M/Octone president James Diener, Maroon 5’s is also planning a re-release of “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long” which will drop late June. The “If I never…” remix will appear on both projects.

“Maroon 5 is a big fan of Rihanna; they have seen her at shows, their paths have crossed and they are buddies,” Diener told Billboard.com about the joint effort. “Adam [Levine] thought it would be amazing to make the song into a ‘battle of the sexes’-style duet, and she was the first person they thought of. The re-release is an opportunity for them to give existing fans more material and new fans that don’t have the record a value-added piece. “The bonus content keeps fans enthused.”

Look for the remix video from director Anthony Mandler to hit MTV soon. Maroon 5 is one of those alternative, rock, interesting groups that I really enjoy. I’m not all that sure about Rihanna as an artist but I’m willing to bet that M5 gets the best out of her.
