The Law Already Failed The Bell Family in Criminal Court; How Much Should The Civil Settlement Be?

Posted by Marcus "Dos Un" Holmes

I say the city, state & federal govt. owe $

seanbellll

By now everyone knows of the calamity that happened a few days ago.  An absolute failure of the U.S. Justice system in the Sean Bell case.  Nothing, no one.  Nonsense.  I really hope appeals go through and this gets taken to the highest court but that’ll take time.

I look forward to the outcome of a civil trial because someone has to pay up and quick.  In my opinion, the city is responsible to financially compensate the Bell family.  New York state houses this city so they also are responsible for what happened.  Due to what happened, how it happened and the outcome of this trial……the Federal Govt. overall needs to step in do something.  The way all of this is playing out is like a gamble ass movie.  I can’t come up with a number.  What do you think would be a fair total overall in a civil case?

  1. DEE DEE says:

They couldn’t pay that woman or the family enough for what they put them through no amount is worth the life lost

  2. I totally agree but this might be the only to get something for what has happened. Nothing will ever make up for the loss.

  3. You pose a good a good question Marcus. I think it’s hard to put a bumber on that but one thing is for sure Sean Bell’s widow and her kids should never ever have to worry about money again after what they have been through.

  4. 4PL says:

A quarter billion should just about do it.

  5. kev says:

this was a slap in the face for the residents in queens, we derserve better, 50 shots no justice… the court sucks yo

  6. Let’s see…

She wasn’t married to him, so any payments made to his FAMILY should bypass the baby-momma.

His kids MIGHT HAVE been entitled to something, but his own actions that night–the actions that caused his death–were his fault and that should insulate the City from any claims, at least in a sane, rational and just world. Had Bell simply complied with police commands, he’d be alive today. His choice.

The state owes nothing. So what if New York City is geographically part of the state? The state government didn’t have anything to do with any of this…unless you want to blame them for not educating Bell properly when he was in a public school.

His thug pals? Not only should they not get a penny, but they should be charged with perjury. We all know they lied, and again, had they complied that night, they wouldn’t have gotten shot.

Time for everyone to get over it. There’s nothing to see here any more. Let’s focus on today and tomorrow now and not waste any more time on Bell. He’s not a martyr or a hero and he essentially killed himself when he started hitting police officers with his SUV.

    • waste holes like yourself make the world go around, every instance needs a fool. I believe he was ON his way to being married jerky. also all of your jabs with respect to black people are very weak, maybe your beating off while your typing and it helps who knows. thanks for your smith opinion though

  7. What have I ever said about black people? This wasn’t even about black vs. white–it was simply thug vs. police and the thug lost. But I suppose when you can’t argue rationally like a typical grown-up, you can resort to accusing people of racism and making sexual comments.

And it doesn’t matter that she was “on her way” to being married. If you’re on your way to the store and you get hit by a car a block away, you didn’t really get there now, did you?

I know that she wants to cash in in a big way and become a millionaire just because she was friends with a guy who got shot, but legall–since she wasn’t family–she has no claim.

  8. Mrs. X says:

Don’t even waste your typing on this Lagniappe’s Guy. This person is obviously ignorant. So I guess it’s Amadou Diallo’s fault for coming outside his own house??? First of here who said there was a police command. Another DT that was on duty that night even said that he didn’t hear a command. The state will give the family something but he is correct about the money by-passing his finacee since they wasn’t legally married and the money will go to his kids, mother and father. And the police office didn’t lie???? Hmmmmmmmmm??? The police shouldn’t place judgment on blackmen just because they think they know what kind of enviroment they live in. I live in that neighborhood and I do fault Sean Bell and his friends for going to that specific club knowing what type of club and environment it breeds. And he knew, he lives in Queens too. He should have chosen a better spot then one that is infested with drugs, drug dealers and prostitution. And I do believe that Sean Bell and his friends knew that they were detectives. Come on living in the hood we all know a DT when we see one. With all that said it doesn’t justify the actions that the DTs made and a life is lost. I believe that the DTs didn’t assess the situation properly and rushed to judgment. Now a life is gone. So sad, so sad. You want to focus on today and tomorrow but if you don’t learn from your past how can you move on to the future because that could be your son, brother or father. WAKE UP!!!!
