Radio One’s ‘NEWSONE.COM’ Launches with feature on Malcolm Shabazz
Grandson talks about his family legacy, the fallout from the fire he set that killed his grandmother, and his attempts to clear his name.

No that’s not Malcolm X…Thats his Grandson and namesake
The Cathy Hughes run Radio One media conglomerate has been making moves of expansion lately… some good and some…not so promising. Today they took more step when they launched www.newsone.com, which is eerily similar to New York Time’s web portal but obviously from an all black perspective.
To launch the initiative NEWSONE featured a special inside look at the life of Malcolm Shabazz (23) who at the age of 12 set the fire that ultimately killed his grandmother, Malcolm X’s widow Betty Shabazz. Shabazz, who as a youth has been haunted by trouble with the law, discusses his new found mission to reform his life after being released from Attica correctional facility in February 2007. In the exclusive interview with Aliya S. King he discusses the pressures of being the sole male heir to tho the legendary Malcolm X and the troubles he’s seen.Â
A GREAT read! If NewsOne can keep this type of content up they’ll be very successful. I recommend adding their rss feed to your reader.

nice
that’s what’s up…
Let me tell you something…This kid went to school with me. he was in 3rd grade with me. He was crazy then, bringing matches and knives to school showing them off like he was a big man. He was crazy then, and i know people usually change as they get older, but i think this guy really has some serious issues other than that he was like 10-11 in 3rd grade(i was 6 or 7). I dont know…maybe its just me!
Just because he’s the kin of someone who was important in black history doesn’t make him a good guy. That pressure might have had a lot to do with his troubles as a youth.
great read…
seems like he was a misunderstood youth.
nice to hear the other perspective of the story.

Thanks…I try. Just trying to give The Nation what we’re all here for…great content.
Interesting….
I went to the site and read the interview. I don’t really know what to make of it, it’s obviously full of holes. The only clear information that he shares is that he doesn’t agree with the mental and personality assessments that have been attributed to him, he believes that he shares a lot of similarities with his grandfather, and that the story told surrounding his involvement in the fire that killed his grandmother is not the actual story.
His life is obviously his to share whatever he chooses, so that interview is what it is…puzzling.
Very puzzling. Like M Cave said…He’s got some issues. He’s going through the stages of development. He’s not ready to come to grips with what he’s done. He’s still young…perhaps time will tell.
