Fall of a King – 40 Years Later

Posted by E. A. Smith

Today marks 40 years since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As we remember the assassination passing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. let us remember his dream of peace.  As we march the streets of Memphis in honor of our doctor, let us march in peace healing what ails this country.  As the sun sets on this day marking 40 years since our king has fallen, let this day not be the only day we carry his dream, but when we wake to the reality of life, let us remember dreams do come true.

Today the srevices, speeches and marches will take place all over the country remembering the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.  April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, at 6:01pm, King was shot by an unknown assassin (although it was believed to be James Earl Ray) while on the second floor balcolny of his motel room.  King was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s hospital at 7:05 that evening.

Remember his dream and not the nightmare that ended his life, remember what he stood for and not how he fell, remember the words he spoke and not the actions against him, reember the peace he lived and not the war that destroys his dream daily.

I wonder what this great man would think of us today.Gang violence is sweeping the country, the economic gap between rich & poor is astronomical, and some blacks treat others so badly, that they make the kkk look like ‘welcome wagon’. I just hope we can get back on track, and remember MLK everyday because if it were not for him, we would not be where we are right now.
