Hip Hop Culture Invades Wrestlemania

Posted by Mike "Evorgleb" Belgrove

Looks like WWE is looking to grab a new audience.

Professional wrestling had always been entertainment for beer drinking rednecks and guys who weren’t smart enough to realize that that things were fixed. Times have changed. These days WWE openly admits that what they do is “just entertainment” and it isn’t jut happy with being a favorite for rednecks and are stretching into new demographics. For instance, just last week WWE anounced they were actively going after youth with their new WWE Kids brand (some would argue that they always have gone after children). It doesn’t stop there though. WWE wants that black/hip hop demographic as well.

At this year’s Wrestlemania event a number of celebrities have been announced and almost all of them are people that appeal to a more “urban” crowd.

The night will start off with John Legend singing “America The Beautiful”. From there we have Snoop Dogg and Kim Kardashian hosting a woman’s tag match. Raven Symone will also be in the house hosting a special segment for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. However, the big attraction for the night will see Floyd Mayweather taking on the the seven-foot tall Big Show. 50 Cent will be on hand to perform Mayweather’s entrance theme which also happens to be 50 Cent’s hit single “I Get Money”. Of course there will be many other wrestling matches as well.

The “non-redneck” Wrestlemania XXIV takes place March 30th from the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

So cool that Kim Kardashian is the event’s hostess. She works hard–runs boutique, models and finds time to film Keeping Up With The Kardashians-which is the hottest family show out. Can’t wait to check it out.

Yea man and WWE is already a force with the “Red States”…if it captures the “urban” audience it will be insane! They need more black wrestlers then too.

I think that’s why John Cena and others are deemed “Hip Hop” types…look at me. I haven’t watched wrestling in a couple years and I know that.

At Wrestlemania last night Cena actually entered the ring while having his entrance music played by a black college marching band. Not sure which school but I’m guessing one of the Florida area ones.
