Black Panther Party Endorsement Of Obama Fuels the Haters Again
I guess Obama must publicly make a speech denouncing any individual with an opinion who supports him.
The NBPP or New Black Panther Party officially endorsed Barack Obama today. One day after Barack Obama delivered a speech denouncing his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr and calling for improved race relations in America, political cyberspace is ablaze today (Wednesday) over the publicly displayed endorsement by the New Black Panther Party on BarackObama.com.
The New Black Panthers, the controversial black militant group who carry on the name and ideology of their original predecessors have posted their endorsement on the Obama campaign’s public forum stating that they support Obama because he “represents ‘positive change’ for all of America. Obama will stir the ‘Melting Pot’ into a better ‘Molten America.”
FoxNews.com boast that the NBPP, is identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a tolerance education organization, as an extremist hate group. The Anti-Defamation League calls NBPP “the largest organized anti-Semitic black blah blah blah blah blah!
Enough already! Ok, so every bad person, ex-convict, controversial individual or group that decides to SUPPORT Obama should be denounced by them now? ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?! Apparently folks like M. Sliwa Public Relations (212-202-4453 / media@msliwa.com) who posted this rather inflamitory press release are free of sin.
EVERY AMERICAN VOTER at some time or another did something or said something that offended another person. BUT THAT’S WHY IT’S IMPORTANT to support a candidate preaching unity. As he expressed in his speech, Obama has a burning desire to eliminate our racial disparities and encourage all Americans to not only recognize but except our differences.
Please tell me what in their endorsement implies violence, radical behavior or anti-semitic sentiment? Where does it say that because the NBPP now officially supports Obama he must subscribe to their ideology. In that case, I guess all those people and organizations in New York that donated money to both the Hillary Clinton campaign and previously Elliot Spitzer’s gubernatorial campaign should NOW be denounced by the former first lady because at some point they endorsed a cheater.
Look we as Americans can say and believe in what we like. But just because our views sometimes may appear radical does that make us less American, less deserving of participation in the political process? I don’t care what anyone believes in their check on the ballot is as good as mine or yours. Get a grip people.

Well, Ann Coulter endorsed Hillary, so maybe that cancels out this one.
that was only because she hates McCain. that endorsement was out of spite.
Imagine how frustrated he must be. The Internet/ Blogosphere worked both to his advantage and detriment in this election. He’s very well prepared however.
Talk about guilt by association. The sad thing is, media realizes the powerful influence it has on american society and they take full advantage of it. Don’t like a certain candidate? Just blast everything that’s potentially “negative” that you can find on them. This country thrives off the misfortune of others. Can we say “crabs in a barrel”? Just because you’re not at the top of the barrel doesn’t mean you have to pull the ones that are up there down. Everybody’s got an opinion. It’s amazing how celebrities and people of power have to live for the media. Not for themselves, their families, or their careers, but the media. You never know when you’re going to be plastered across the front page! Obama has been handling it well nonetheless. He keeps it real. But the mere fact that he “has to” denounce everyone that endorses or is somehow affiliated with him is ridiculous. This just needs to stop.
Utterly ridiculous.
great post!
Thanks!
Its gonna be a hard job to be the first African American president of the United States as you can see the first African American governor of NY already has issues with his b*tches
I”m starting to feel like black people are gonna cost Barack this election. Sometimes you gotta know when its time to shut up. If the Panthers wanted Barack elected, the last thing they should have done is anounce it to the world.
Agreed.
I usually agree with you thought and rarely agree with you Mike but here’s the deal. THIS COUNTRY IS GREAT because of our right to free speech. See my post about Strapped Condoms. The Panthers aren’t out waiving the flag for Obama. Lets not make this about them. This is about the media that’s trying to flip everybody who stands behind the man to not be worthy of doing so. That’s the issue and its crazy.
Look at it this way…Did it in any effect 50’s “Street Cred” when LaToya Jackson said her favorite musician was 50 Cent? Hell no? Did he have to denounce her fandom in order for his fans to realize he was real street? LaToya isn’t hood but she has every right to say she likes dukes music. Her crazy ass life doesn’t have any bearing on what 50 does even though she’s a “public” figure.
you kinda lost be with the Latoya Jackson referance, lol. But the way the fact remains that most of mainstream America may view a group like The Black Panthers as only a step or two below Al Quiada. Those thoughts may or may not be warranted depending on who you ask. I think the real issue here isn’t the media (which HN is kinda included in) because they are always going to create the news in the image they want to portray. The issue is the zealots like the panthers or Rev. Wright who are want Obama elected but may cost them the election through their very support of him.
You’re wrong! Rev. Wright is irrelevant unless someone makes him an issue. He’s the the lighter fluid. We need a match to make a fire. That’s where the media comes in.
I want S. Stylus to get this upset when this happens to everyone not just who you are supporting at the time. Hillary was getting creamed but I didn’t see outraged posts by that. Its hard for me to accept your point because it seems extremely biased from what I have seen you write previously on the site. I believe you have a valid point but you don’t get upset when similar things happen to other politicians, people, or candidates for this election.
Uhhh Ask your friend Mike over there about who I supported on Super Tuesday. You’d be surprised. I also think that the difference is Hillary does DAMAGE CONTROL…Obama is forced to do GARBAGE CONTROL.
You say, “Look we as Americans can say and believe in what we like. But just because our views sometimes may appear radical does that make us less American, less deserving of participation in the political process?”
Absolutely not, but the problem is that Obama is associating with these individuals and organizations, and oh, he’s running for President.
Whether it’s PC or not, a black president is a big deal, a milestone for this country, and associating with hateful people, and it’s not people or organizations that are hateful on a local level, these are big time…nationwide…people know about these guys and his association with them is only hurting his chances to get elected for President.
Every candidate has people that support them that have shady pasts, but the key here is that they are just supporting or endorsing, and this may go more with Rev. Wright more than the black panthers, but Obama actually knows these people, it’s not just someone or organization out there, it’s on a personal level and I think this is another mark against Obama…let’s not start talking about his policies, or the lack there of…
Don’t Tread On Me…I’ve got a clue over here I’d like to sell you for a dollar. First and formeost PLEEEEASE Find me evidence that Malik Zulu Shabazz or ANY leaders of the New Black Panther Party HAVE EVER Interacted with Barack Obama. I understand your comments were more geared towards Rev. Wright however, he wasn’t the topic of my post. Secondly I am the product of a former (Original) Black Panther Party member and having more insight about the movement than obviously you do I’ll say their values are based in family not hate, their means YES might be militant. I’ll say that but I’m not running for President.
Now you you’re trying to pin the comments of Rev. Wright on Mr. Obama? Pure ignorance. That’s what we call a “Logical Fallacy” my friend. We’ve all met unsavory characters at some point; people who we didn’t necessarily believe in, people we’ve interacted with.
According to your logic, I guess we should then condemn EVERY Senator during the 80 year reign of South Carolina Senator Strom Thurman? He was as blatantly southern racist as they come. Every Senator, every president who ever agreed on a vote with the man…tarnished for life.
Remember we as individuals have the autonomy to think on our own. Just because EVERYONE we meet might not be smarter or more politically correct than we are doesn’t mean they can’t serve a purpose in our lives. Don’t Tread…look in the mirror. I’m sure there is someone in your life that helped you to get the point where you are now that if running for president won’t be a good look if they stood by your side.
Thanks for the reply to my comment. Discussion is the only way to enlightenment. You are right on numerous points, and you’re right about me not knowing much about the BPP, and I’ll throw in that I don’t know much about Trinity Church, or any other organization, of any race, that preaches either hateful ideas or militant ways, etc… and it’s quite possible that people and the media have got it wrong because they are from the outside looking in, but the key point here is Perception. Whether right or wrong, it’s a perception that main stream America has.
I came to your site, never being here before, after Mike “Evorgleb” Belgrove left me a comment on my site. I read your post and while I didn’t agree with some of it, it’s still a good argument, but I think you are looking at it from your point of view, and how else could you look at, but the Main stream media, which is horrible by the way, they lie, they distort, they manipulate, but the main stream media is where most of the population gets their news. It’s a sheepish mentality, but they care more about sound bites, and any mention of the BPP after the Rev. Wright situation is only another strike against Obama.
You go on to say that I’m pinning Rev. Wright’s comments on Obama, and that it’s ignorance, but I would argue that anyone, and I mean anyone, who has a relationship with a man for 20 years, who marries you, who baptizes your children, who is a mentor and personal advisor, will have some influence on your life. Now I know the MSM releases what, 5 clips and they happen to be hateful, not just toward a particular race, but to this country, and whether right or wrong, are perceived by this country as this must be what’s it’s like every Sunday morning. I realize it’s not like that. I’m sure he has done tremendous things, and I’m sure he has instilled more good qualities in Obama than not, but he still has uttered hate filled messages and Obama has a choice to stay or leave, he choose to stay. I think this will hurt Obama, whether he believes all of the man’s beliefs or not.
You go on to mention that we all have come across shady characters, but we have a choice to either hang out with them or not. Why would you hang out with a man for 20 years if you don’t agree with what he has says? I know if a friend of mine had hateful things to say I would end that relationship, I would choose not to be associated with it, and I know of a friend recently that I gave up because of what he has said on a constant basis. I just couldn’t subject myself to listening to his bs, I disagreed with him so I ended it, but had I agreed, we’d still be friends today. Obama did not leave
You also mention that my tangent did not directly relate to your topic in the post, but I beg to differ. I choose to look at the larger picture. I choose to look at it from “America’s†perspective that this is turning into a racial item in the Democratic candidacy. Whether right or wrong, it appears to be taking that road. And I do realize that we are all individuals of independent thought, thank God! I’d hate to follow the sheep over the cliff. But we also have choices to make. Running into a hateful person, being endorsed by a hateful person, having an occasional interaction with a hateful person…you should not be judged for those things. It’s unfortunate that people out there are like that, but they are. But to call someone who may fit this mold a friend, a spiritual leader, a mentor, that is a bit much and a much harder pill to swallow, not only for myself, but for America.
Don’t Tread On Me, you are a worthy debate opponent. I commend you. Your point about perception is strong. Perception is everything. As a marketing profession I do understand that its not about what you mean its what your consumer THINKS you mean. HOWEVER, we as INFORMED and RESPONSIBLE Americans need to transcend such illogical journalism. We need to be able to think for ourselves using common sense and not “follow the sheep over the cliff as you’ve stated.”
I can’t argue with you about Rev. Wright. I wish I could tell you why Obama would befriend someone for 20 years who he felt didn’t alight with his ideology or had a disdain for America or certain ethnic groups.
However it all doesn’t matter. I liken it to my grandfather. An immigrant from the Dominican Republic, a former indentured servant, very poor but My Hero. I learned hard work, respect and pride valuable qualities that I would never trade in. However my grandfather didn’t believe in education. Does that make ME less of a person because I love my grandfather (god rest his soul?) I think not. Not everyone in our life is as enlightened as we are however that doesn’t mean they can’t have a profound impact on our lives.
I think everyone is missing the point that S dot is making here. Obama should NOT have to denounce everyone that endorses him. His purpose of running for President is to get votes, so that he can become President. Sounds simple enough right? Why should he be scrutinized for the people who believe in what he stands for and have chosen to vote for him? It makes no sense. So if you or I ran for President and the pastor of our church started screaming about homosexuality being a sin, that should affect our ability to be President? Obama cannot control what other people say and feel. And neither can Mr. and Mrs. Media. So the whole country needs to get off it and let this man handle his BI!
No one missed the point. They just don’t agree with him. John McCain has faced similar fire and so has Hillary. Barack can shake this and he will. But everyone’s comment on this post taps into a critical point to the discussion.
So what’s your point? You’ve said alot and nothing at all. Do you have any insight on the subject or are you just beefing with S dot because he reported on this and not the little 2 second clips the media MIGHT HAVE put on the news about McCain and Hillary’s alleged “negative” supporters that you speak of?
Well here is my insight…. The media blows things out of proportion and just because a group or person endorses a candidate does not mean that the person who is receiving the endorsement has to like them, know them personally, or agree with their views on any issues at all. I did not attack Hillary for Geraldine Ferraro’s comments. However many did. Now as to the suggestion that Hillary and McCain do not get adequate negative press. Its not there turn right now. The media likes to take turns and no I am not disappointed that it is not their turn or that they didn’t get mentioned.
NOW FOR THE S dot comment. He writes posts that appeal to intellectual people or people who like to think. So most of what I read on here is by him, therefore I am familiar with his views. NOW I like discussing the issues that S dot posts and would like to see more of a discussion and less of a debate. Your comment seem to encourage a debate and that’s why I responded. So if you want to, you can say I was beefing with you, but not S dot.
All I wanted to see was your point of view ON THE SUBJECT. You were more beefing with the fact that S dot reported this than discussing what he actually said. I never saw it as you were beefing with me. You just didn’t have anything to say about the contect but rather the fact that the article exsisted at all. Know we know your thoughts. Thank you.
Well you got my point of view on the subject now and you also got my point of view on some other things. You are more than welcome.
THE BLACK PANTHERS DID NOT ENDORSE OBAMA. There are over one-million user-created pages on mybarackobama.com. Anyone can create a page. I could create a page right now saying I’m Frodo and the Hobbits endorse Obama. The Black Panthers did not endorse Obama. It was a just page someone made to cause trouble. There is another page on mybarackobama.com from “Sean Hannity” endorsing Obama. Think that’s real? Idiots.
Well Kerry, the problem is that the media makes it seem like WHOEVER endorces Obama (be it NBPP, Rev. Wright, or Frodo and the Hobbits) will have an impact on his ability to function as a President. And it shouldn’t! It really shouldn’t matter who endorces him.
I believe you’re correct Kerry. But I think M. Thomas makes a good point. Remember the purpose of the post was to discuss the REACTION to the Fox News report suggesting that there was an issue with any endorsement coming from a “hate group.” I personally scoured the internet and the NBPP site (which is terrible) to get confirmation but I couldn’t find any. I have reached out to the NBPP but have received no response as of the writing of this comment.
I posted the story anyway because I felt it was important to address the way in which the story was covered by the media. This wasn’t a two bit blog that reported it…this was FOX NEWS a major news source (albeit a very biased one.) If you’re correct in your assessment Kerry, it’s not only irresponsible of them to assert there’s something wrong with the endorsement but also reporting it without confirmation. Thanks for your comments.
I’m pretty sure the Hobbits are withholding an endorsement until after the convention but I’ve heard that the Elves of Middle Earth are throwing their support behind Barack.
lol.
ha… LOL
i mean, it’s fox news. they’re retarded. why even get mad at what they say? it’s a waste of energy.
lol I feel you but at the same time its definately worth addressing.
If you don’t take notice and let them know that people are aware they will continue to do it with the ignorance of thinking that the people they are targeting don’t get their way of thinking.
Put them on blast every time, in a constructive way, so they know that people aren’t stupid. I’m sure they aren’t going to be stopped any time soon but it will open the eyes of those who don’t quite pay too much attention and make them aware of the lies fox tries to put over on the people who tune in.
