BUSINESS MATTERS: Tiki Barber Has A New Gig Investing in Low-Income Housing
Yeah I’d rather do that than win Superbowls too
I guess Tiki Barber wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to do “things outside of sports” when he announced his retirement. The former Giants running, current asshole and future Hall-Of-Famer is getting it popping in the low-income housing market.
Richmond, Va-based Web site styleweekly.com is reporting that Barber’s Tiki Ventures, LLC, has partnered with Related Affordable to purchase and renovate Woodcroft Village, a 250-unit apartment complex in the Fulton area of Richmond, Virginia.
As part of the project’s financing, Barber wants to acquire federal low-income housing credits, which are available to developers who agree to keep rents low. In Richmond, that means if a developer rents to a family of four, for example, the family would have to make less than $34,650 a year, and rent could be no more than $780 a month for a two-bedroom unit or $900 for a three-bedroom, including utilities, styleweekly reports.
Barber, still has his also applied for similar credits towards projects in Portsmouth, Danville and Roanoke, Virginia where he grew up and went to school. Tiki still has his gig on the “Today Show” but doesn’t have a Superbowl ring. Sorry Tikster…help yourself to all the projects you want though.
