“The Wire” To Hit The Big Screen?
The Wire can live on…Movie being thought about; looks likely to happen
At a series finale screening for HBO’s critically acclaimed show “The Wire,” a few of the actors who played some the memorable characters on the show dropped hints at the possibility of the show living on…on the “big screen.”
Actors Wendell Pierce aka Det. Bunk offered that he and Sonja Sohn aka Det. Shakima Greggs have in fact “secured financing for a “Wire,” movie and are hoping [series executive producer] David Simon and others will get on board.”Â
Also, Dominic West aka McNulty, in an interview with the LA Times stated “There’s just so much material and so many plot lines to go on, and I think Wendell [who plays Bunk] thought, why not make a movie? There’s a ready-made audience, and I think a lot of us feel it will be a long time before we get to act such great writing and with people we like as much as we all like each other.”
West and many of the show’s main characters are trying to persude Simon into devloping a movie but did say that Simon “doesn’t need persuading” to make the movie, but will need a story befitting the quality of the material the show has produced…for the movie to involve all the major players it will have to be a prequel which Simon is particularly keen on.

If a show like ‘Sex and The City’ can hit the big screen why not the wire?
It may reach a whole new audience if it makes it, which it should.
In no way am I saying that ‘Sex’ compares to ‘Wire’ in any caliber other than they both were HBO Original Series.
This has been talked about a while ago.
David Simon already made a statement back in January about it. He said they had the money, they just need to make the decision.
Here is the post made on January 7th 2008
As much as we’d like to talk about it…there’s no financing for it and no story. Simon said what any good producer would.
Rumors were swirling back in January but with the buzz and frenzy surrounding the finale the idea of the movie and the ability to get raise additional funds are more concrete…thanks for the heads up tho.
ENTER AVON BARKESDALE AND FRIENDS! Son they could make a prequal and a sequal.
Depending on deep they are willing delve into the characters’ past the possibilities of Pre/Sequals are the definitely there
There will be a movie for the Wire why not? It has enough juice to produce 3 or four movies you could have a movie called corner kids based on the wire you could have a movie about the baltimore p.d. based on the wire and definitely a movie about the dope game. Its going to happen just like a sopranos movie.
I think they could do it. I think eyes will be on the Sex in the City movie to see how well a drama can make the move to the big screen.
Judging by the finale episode I think it’s be a bit of a stretch to make a sequel and include the shows major characters.
If you read the passion with which Simon went about his creation of The Wire you’ll be even more excited about the prospects of a movie.
As long as they keep the acting on par with the series, this should be great.
P.S., No damn Rappers, I dont need to see 50cent in this, he will make it “Too MTV”
