Dancehall Artist, Cocoa Tea and Calypso Legend Mighty Sparrow Record Obama Tributes
Even abroad Barack Obama’s Air of Change Can Be Felt
There have been a handful of tributes to presidential hopeful, Sen. Barack Obama but perhaps the most interesting artists on the Barack Bandwagon are Reggae/dancehall superstar Cocoa Tea and Trinidadian calypso star Mighty Sparrow. Cocoa Tea’s (whose government name is Calvin Scott) penned the tribute entitled “Barack Obama,” and was written to honor the Illinois Democrat as a “trendsetter” urging Americans “to unite as one” behind him. This is not about class nor color, race nor creed…It’s about the changes, what the Americans need.”
“Barack the Magnificent” by the calypso legend Mighty Sparrow similarly supports the Illinois Senator reminding voters that “the young people who are supporting him want change - and that’s what he represents.”
Its interesting how he has evoked the will of not only those here domestically but even artists abroad who have no direct political involvement in the campaign. Peep.
