Gravy Selected To Be B.I.G in the ‘Notorious’ Biopic
He’s from Brooklyn, he Raps, and he’s 300 plus pounds…but is he a good choice??
Rapper Gravy has been selected to portray Legendary Hip Hop rapper The Notorious B.I.G. I’m still not sold on the pick but is there really anyone out there that could’ve been selected without scrutiny…probably not. At least it’s better that Beanie Sigel. Here’s the official word and the rest of the cast:
Fox Searchlight has hired Jamal Woolard aka Gravy, a Brooklyn-based rapper, to play late rap icon Biggie Smalls, a.k.a. the Notorious B.I.G., in its upcoming biopic “Notorious.”
Derek Luke, Angela Bassett and Anthony Mackie also have been cast in the movie, the art-house studio said. Directed by George Tillman Jr. (“Soul Food”), it goes into production this month and is set for release in January.
Luke (“Catch a Fire”) will play Biggie record producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, who off-screen is an executive producer on the film. Mackie (“Brother to Brother”) will play rival rapper Tupac Shakur, while Bassett (“Akeelah and the Bee”) will play Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace.
 
 
 
If you know Gravy; his claim to fame (at least before being picked to play Biggie) was this: Rapper shot in the ass outside radio station.   Â
What are you guys’ thoughts on the choice?

interesting. Like you said, people will complain no matter who you get to play Biggie. Gravy has the look but can he act? And i would also think Mackie would have been casted as Puffie not Pac. That one I cant figure out.

eh, I guess I have 2 cross my fingers and hope. I hop 2 pac is portrayed proper (although it’s not his movie)
I have no idea who Gravy is but if you base it on the rest of the cast, I think it might be a good hood flick. I don’t know about Oscar worthy tho. Hopefully they prove me wrong on that last statement. We’ll see.

This film is going to be a smith. Luke Derek as Puffy. Ohhhhh brother.
Time will tell if it’s done proper.
