McCain and the republicans would have attacked that issue anyway and its better to handle it now than to struggle closer to November. The deomcratic candidate needs to be able to handle some "swift boat" or dirty attacks. Obama from what I have seen so far, will be fine. He understands politics and is willing to play dirty, which is often necessary.

i just finished reading the previous comments, and they are all in point. no one should be elected because of their race, sex, nor gender, but on the qualifications they bring to the table.if you go my latter statement, you would come up with Hillary. all Obama brings to the table is 2 years in the senate, and Oprah. i'm sorry, but that is not enough for me. sometimes, it takes a vary strong woman to get things done. and NO, it does not make her a bitch; it means she is effective, and doing what she has to do. i walked onto a job as a supervisor where all the previous ones were black men. all i get are compliments of how well everything is going and looking. being called the 'b' word does not bother me. it tells me i am not weak, taking crap of anyone, or accepting anything less than perfection; same with Hillary. if people really want to scrutinize & analyze comments, what does Mr. Obama mean by "The Sermon on the mount" says homosexuality is ok? i'm going to leave that one alone, and go back to read ROMANS 9. hope you all stay BLESSED!! and i thank you all for this informative blog, as i cannot have this conversation with alot of black people

Very good points Steve. I do agree that winning is everything but as a democrat or republican on the "plebeian" you don't really care who is your nominee as long as they can push your policy. Woman or black, white whatever as a taxpayer you want to assured that your public representation is ultimately going to have your best interest in mind. I agree, I think people may have gotten nervous about Obama's electablity but as a result of Clinton's attacks it made people nervous about his ability to be effective as President as well. That doesn't necessary help her case but it does write McCains speech for him if Obama is nominated. She's hurting the party and thus my chances of having the policies that I believe in imposed in Washington.

Super Deligates, another unfair process but that's another topic. I totally agree with what you said Brian, the Dems may lose in the Fall because they are both saying they are not good enough to do the job now, but later will support each other.....sounds like Kerry split into two people.

Personally I would like it to be over because I think this is showing a serious problem in the democratic party. Normally the primaries are interestin, but with the Republicans already having thier nominee in the bag, it sort of shows disruption and uncertainty (since they are stabbing each other)in the democrats. I know that this is what normally happens, but after Kerry's run in 04 which showed he was riding the fence instead of choosing a side of an issue, should the party show this kind of uncertainty.

Hillary hinted at having Obama as a running mate (if she should win) but that seems real crazy after you pretty much said he would not be good, how would that look?

On a last note I'm for a Black Man winning or a Woman winning, but that should not be the reason why you choose a candidate, I know I surely would not of voted for Jesse if I was able to vote. Vote wisely.

I thought the exact same thing when I listened to her speech. It was very telling that she compares the campaign to a fight. That makes Obama her enemy/opponent. They're supposed to be on the same team!

I hope the Democrats don't muck it up again. I was amazed when George W was elected the first time. Coming after Clinton, Gore couldn't beat him? Then, when we put up Kerry the last time I thought "This is the best we can do?"

I have lost a great deal of respect for the Clintons during this campaign. And, while they are tearing down Obama, they are are also hurting her chances against McCain as they are showing a win at all costs mentality. I may have to vote for Hillary in the fall. So, I won't tear her apart too much. But, I wish we could get this nomination behind us and move on as a united party ASAP.

Are you listening Superdelegates?

Peace,
Brian

For those who may not understand the political process, winning is what this election is all about. The Democratic Voters with the help of a rather biased media blitz are the culprits in this dilemma, and to blame the candidates for this mess serves no purpose. It is ultimately the voters who will have to get the party out of this mess in the final contests upcoming, otherwise they may be looking at four more years of a Republican Administration. If voters and the media are so determined to jump on the Obama bandwagon, then they should at least come up with a good reason why Obama can't close the deal on the nomination. It seems there is an electability and a credibility issue with Obama which will haunt him the rest of this election.

I want it to end too. This election thus far has weighed on me. It hurts to watch people attack Hillary, when she is a woman trying to break it to a man's field. Many women don't understand that, but those women trying to make it or break into a field predominately run by men is feeling her pain. Barack seems to be a good man and as much as I want to see progress for my people (Black people), I don't want it to be at the expense of my gender. People don't need to attack Hillary's character to support Barack. Now Barack is free to attack Hillary because they are playing the game of politics. So when I say lay off Hillary I am not referring to Obama's campaign. Hopefully this will be over soon. On the McCain note, we still have time to choose the candidate that we all want before worrying about attacking McCain politically.

I just want this to end. Unless there has been some agreement that Hillary and Obama would be each other's running mate, then they are just hurting their own chances by making this go on longer and longer without Democratic voters having someone to get fully behind. While they battle each other McCain is free to take shots at both of them without the worry that either will be able to pay much attention to firing back.

It was a disappointing night, to be sure, but let’s put it into a little perspective:

When Hillary first announced her Texas/Ohio firewall plan, Obama was well behind in Texas. At the time, we were told that because of the Hispanic voters, he was going to lose that state hard.

Back then, the Clinton campaign said that she had to “win both states big”.

Then, the goalpost changed, and changed and changed.

She went from having to win both states big to just winning both states; then winning just one state; then the argument was “it doesn’t matter if we win or not”.

The fact that Obama was close in Texas still (in my opinion) puts a stake in the heart of her plan. It is nearly impossible (mathematically) for her to catch up.

Now she’s talking about “electability.” She’s claiming that we should ignore the will of the voters, and just give it to her because she (in her opinion), has a better chance of winning in November.

I don’t think so. On the contrary, nothing will shore up the republican behind McCain more than a Clinton on the ticket.

But, what do I know.

Clinton is playing politics and she is playing hard right now because she is losing. Obama as played hard before and I suspect will step it up soon after Clinton's improved performance in the primary last night. I know that some want politics to be more uplifting and about the people but at this level it is about the candidates. You have to have extreme confidence and arrogance to think that you are the best person to run one of the largest countries in the world. Sour grapes? No. Getting dirty and playing hard, yes. I believe those same tactics elected J.F.K and most recently George Bush, not once but twice. I am kidding a little when I say this but don't hate the player, hate the game. She is just playing the game.
