Russell Simmons Endorses Barack Obama?!

Posted by Juan

Why this just boils my blood right now?!

Russell Simmons

King Russel “Joffery Joffer” Simmons  from the almighty land of Fat Farm has sent out a royal missive to all his loyal Hip Hop subjects announcing his endorsement for Senator Barack Obama.  Yo…who does this clown think he is?  Two problems with this and this is coming from someone who idolizes Russell so its completely objective.

FIRST: Since when do business moguls officially endorse a candidate?  You’re not a highly reputable media outlet like Highbrid Nation (toungue in cheek.)  If you voted for him say you voted for dude…wear a pin like my man Spike does at the Knicks game.  He’s more relevant than you are and he doesn’t need to put out a press release.

SECOND: Your primaries past almost a month ago Russell.  What point does it make releasing an endorsement this late in the game.  Its like betting on a baseball game in the 9th inning with two outs and Mariano Rivera on the mound.  Go back to sitting on your Yoga mat.

Anyway if you care here’s Russel’s release from his PR company: JLM PR:

Today I am announcing my personal endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States.

During the last nine months, I have closely observed the presidential campaigns, analyzed the issues and platforms of the major candidates, and have had substantive discussions with Senator Clinton and Senator Obama. From the sidelines of the primaries and debates, I have been particularly inspired by the fact that Senator Obama has built an unprecedented, national movement comprised of people from all ethnic, racial, political, social and economic backgrounds.

In particular, the response to Obama by young voters across America continues to be monumental. Obama’s leadership, passion and demand for a change resonates effectively with the aspirations of millions of people who want a better quality of life. This is truly a transcendent and historic moment in American politics and I am obligated not to remain on the sidelines.

Although I have great respect for the accomplishments of Senator Clinton and I have personally worked with Senator Clinton successfully on issues concerning education, prison reform and poverty, I am now compelled by my own personal conscience to publicly state, “I support and endorse Barack Obama for President.”

As the Chairman of the non-partisan, nonprofit The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, it is my personal opinion that Senator Obama’s campaign for President has and will continue to transcend race in America and have a profound positive impact on the very issues I have been fighting for my whole life. Many of you know my work as Chairman of the non-partisan, nonprofit Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.

Hip-Hop as a cultural phenomena is also about transformation and taking action to end poverty, war and ignorance. While I am endorsing Senator Obama as a private citizen, I am in complete solidarity with the transformative consciousness of the growing number artists and young people from the hip-hop generation that are overwhelmingly supporting Obama.

Didn’t Russell call Barack a “mouse” last year?

In what context?

I agree and was never a fan of this so-called father of hip-hop. Homeboy is a day late and a dollar short. I breifly addressed it on my blog as well.

Maybe Russell is a resident of another state and not NY like we all think…I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he is a resident of Texas or Florida when there is not states taxes…hmmm…but yeah when I read that release I was thinking the same thing…aren’t you a bit late mr def comedy jam or maybe this is what really comedy…I put together some of Russell greatest quotes…Quote Of The Day and then esp this big time people…I thought they were all about the taxes…I would think they would be backing the McCain…or maybe they are going to subsidized the healthcare themselves…btw what happened to Oprah…did she swift from Barack…I haven’t heard her doing anything lately.

Anyone can endorse anything, or do we not realise this. Kobe endores Addidas and gets paid for it, Luda was pushing Pepsi untill Bill O’Tumb-Up his ass had a problem with it. When has it become bad to stand up for what you beleive? I think more people need to stand up for something, but then eh, everyone would rather be a critic right? I just hope that everyone that is critizing is a REGESTERED VOTER, AND IS PARTICIPATING IN THE ELECTION. Otherwise my voice is louder then yours and you may not like who I vote for.

In the case of Russell he had already endorsed someone else and even refered to Obama as “a mouse”. So is it really him standing up for what he believes?

Who really cares who this rich Black guy is supporting? Will it alter anyone else’s voting choice?

Speaking of Barack Obama:

Barack Obama is a racial-minority individual, and in his heart and mind he inevitably does not endorse hate crimes committed by George W. Bush.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.
