Former Vibe Chief Editor Hired By Radio One’s GIANT
He’s very strange but very good at what he does.
Friday, Radio One announced that it has hired hired former editor-in-chief at Vibe, Emil Wilbekin as Giant’s new editor-in-chief replacing Smokey Fontaine, who has been promoted to Chief Content Officer.
During the past 12 years at Vibe, Wilbekin helped to expand the franchise from publishing to multimedia, earning the 2002 National Magazine Award for General Excellence along the way. Though a resident Doo Doo Fashionista he helped build Vibe’s circulation to 825,000, and produced the first annual “Vibe Awards” on UPN.
“Emil is one of the superstars in the magazine business,” said Alfred C. Liggins, CEO and President of Radio One. “He is ideally suited to take on this role and build on the terrific work Smokey Fontaine has done growing the GIANT brand. We are thrilled to have him on our team.”
Wilbekin has also worked as Vice President of Brand Development at Marc Ecko Enterprises and consulted for Sean John, AXE, and Microsoft and has been considered one of the more powerful Gay Magazine Executives in the industry. SOURCE: EURweb.com
