MARKETING MATTERS: NYPD Lobbiest: Bell’s Widow Trying To Influence Jury With Rocawear Ad
Now you can’t grieve in public either. Unbelievable Story
Last week we posted the new Rocawear clothing ad featuring the family of Sean Bell. Well now, according to Showbizspy.com, a law enforcement group is trying to say the ads are propaganda to influence the jury in an upcoming trial. WOW!
Bell of course was the unarmed man shot and killed by undercover NYPD detectives in November 2006 outside a New York club where his bachelor party had just been held. He was scheduled to be married a few hours later. Queens by three police officers.
As you see, the ad features Bell’s widow Nicole Paultre-Bell - who posthumously married Sea, holding her daughters Jada and Jordan and sporting her wedding band.
“This was a planned publicity stunt timed to influence the jury,” said Michael Palladino, president of the Detectives Endowment Association. Paultre-Bell’s lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein, denies that her client intended to influence the trial. “You can easily go negative with anything. She sees it as something uplifting,” Rubenstein said.
Jameel Spencer, chief marketing officer for Rocawear, said the goal of their advertising is to tell stories of people who overcome adversity. “It embodies the spirit of how Rocawear was born - how hip-hop was born,” said Spencer. “We’re trying to highlight different stories. Nicole, she really embodies the overall spirit of that.”
So now you’re not allowed to be publicly mournful of your fallen husband in fear that you’ll be influencing a jury? Oh my god. This is really getting my blood boiling on this issue. FACT: A man wrongfully died. Rocawear is trying to display the unrelenting spirit of this woman and use their voice within the public to immortalize his man’s memory and make sure we’re all mindful so the next Sean Bell doesn’t become you. Urban Thought (loyal citizen of the Highbrid Nation since 2007) I’m sure has some words to say about this one. Good looks for the email homey!

If anything good comes out of his death, be it empowerment, a great sense of self, or a campaign to make the masses aware of the injustice that is America, they will have a problem with it.
These people are scared of the truth that is the act which caused the situation. Dude was not armed. They were not in the right. And if all goes well, they will have to pay whether it is through jail time, lose of income/employment, or a financial settlement (if a civil case is on the table).
